At the beginning of August, the BMW Group plant in Leipzig will start mass production of the second production line of battery modules. According to the company, this will contribute to the further expansion of the production of electronic components at the plant in Saxony. The new production line produces battery modules for the BMW i4 electric vehicle being built at the Munich plant. In May 2021, the first production line was launched in Leipzig, which supplies battery modules for the BMW iX e-SUV.

With today's start of production of the second line, the Leipzig plant is making an important contribution to supplying a growing number of electrified vehicles with battery components

The continuous expansion of electronic component manufacturing contributes to the BMW Group's goal of achieving at least half of all-electric car sales by 2030.

BMW has invested around 70 million euros in the new production line alone. The expansion of production is also associated with the creation of new jobs: by the end of 2022, about 250 employees will ensure the production of battery modules on the second production line. Currently, over 700 people work in the field of electronic components production at the plant in Leipzig.
