Mercedes-Benz is recalling 7,810 EQE and EQS electric models worldwide due to faulty towbar threads. In Germany, 1,746 vehicles were affected. For Mercedes, this is not a serious review, but still annoying.

Judging by the entry in the KVA feedback database, the thread on the tow hitch may be faulty. When visiting the workshop, the towing devices are “checked and, if necessary, modified”. There are no known incidents of property damage and/or personal injury.

The message states "the required screw-in depth of the towing eye into the towbar thread may not be achieved on the affected vehicles". In this case loosening of the threaded connection cannot be ruled out.

The faulty thread is not the first EQE and EQS recall, both of which are based on an entirely new electrical platform. Mercedes-Benz previously recalled 341 EQE models worldwide due to steering problems, 130 of them in Germany. There has already been an EQS recall due to a possible fire hazard due to improperly screwed ground connections, although this was a very small action and only in the US. Earlier this year, EQS was also part of a recall campaign due to faulty charging cables.
