Volkswagen has officially started series production of the ID.4 at Emden in Lower Saxony, which is the model's second production site in Germany after Zwickau.

With the Chattanooga, Tennessee plant joining in fall 2022, the Volkswagen ID.4 will be built in a total of five locations around the world. Two other factories are located in China - in Anting and Foshan (online since 2020). Production at Emden started on schedule, despite global challenges, after two years of preparations and a €1 billion (over $1 billion) investment to transform the plant.

The maximum output at the end of 2022 will be 800 ID.4 per working day. In the first quarter of 2022, Volkswagen delivered more than 30,000 ID.4s, bringing the cumulative number of vehicles since launch to 163,000. The press release states that around 73,000 ID.4 orders have now been placed worldwide, making his most successful Volkswagen electric model.
