Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is preparing to debut its first electric car, but it's not certain that it will make it to series production.
The car will be presented personally by the founder of the company Lei Jun, he is very interested in the Xiaomi Auto project, which spends almost two-thirds of his time in the offices of the new division.
The first Xiaomi prototype will undergo a series of tests after its debut, including winter testing. According to some information, the company will begin mass production of its first model in 2024 and will try to speed up all production processes as much as possible.
To create the look of the first Xiaomi car, a team from Shanghai HVST Automobile Design was involved, which is responsible for the design of the WM Motor Maven concept. After the debut of the electric car, Xiaomi intends to launch a massive PR campaign.
At the end of November last year, Xiaomi signed a contract with the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Management Committee to build an assembly plant with a capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year. The plant will be built in two stages, at the first stage it will be able to produce up to 150,000 cars per year.
In total, Xiaomi will release four models, two each in A+ and B grades. The brand's electric vehicles will be quite expensive. The company expects to occupy niches of the middle and high price range. The first model can cost from 150 000 yuan.
