Chinese battery manufacturer Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery has unveiled the SFC480 battery with particularly fast charging, which is scheduled for series production this year.
The new cells are ready to accept 480kW charges and can provide a range of 700km, according to Sunwoda. The SFC480 battery is rated for 50,000 charge-discharge cycles.
Sunwoda vice president Zhang Yao added that the company is constantly improving materials, structure and assembly methods and expects to increase the maximum range to 1,100 km by 2026. The company then expects the battery design to evolve into a CTC (Cell-to-Chassis) from the current CTP (Cell-to-Pack).
Sunwoda partnered with Nissan in 2020 to develop next-generation batteries for Nissan e-Power hybrid vehicles. They have since expanded their technology collaboration with Chinese electric vehicle maker Geely, which set up a joint venture through its subsidiary Jirun Automobile in 2021 to develop batteries for hybrid vehicles.
Sunwoda is now bringing its designs to market with the support of two new battery factories announced earlier this year.
